About Brand

The Gutter Buddy First Flush Rainwater Diverter works by separating solid and heavier particles into a separate holding tube to prevent them from entering your rainwater storage tank. The particles and debris sink to the bottom of the chamber and as the chamber fills up the water overflows into the water storage tank.

A first flush diverter works as a second-stage mechanical filtration solution to ensure you get water stored in your tank as clean as possible.

First Flush Rainwater Harvesting

I cannot give you a review as yet. We are still in the process of sorting out the gutter flow around the house. Only then will I install your system and only the be able to give yoy a proper review.

Room for improvement

Initially I felt the Gutter Buddy first flush diverter was OK. But now that I've assembled and mounted it, and used it for a few weeks, I'm less impressed. There are two main problems with it. Firstly, the styrofoam ball that floats up as the diverter fills up with the first rainwater flush has gotten stuck in the neck (the constriction at the top) twice already, which renders the whole thing inoperable. I'm now checking it after every rainshower, which is a pain but still better than not having the system work at all. Secondly, the screw-on lid at the bottom has no gasket, which means it leaks all the time. That's fine if you don't mind water dripping down there when it rains, but in my case the diverter is under an overhang next to a wooden pole that do to well standing in water most of the time, so I connected a garden hosepipe to the diverter's bottom tap which works fine, except for the leaking screw-on lid.

So yes, it works as far as it goes, but it could be better. A gasket in the screw-on lid can't cost more than a Rand or two on the production side (volume being what it is) and a small modification to prevent the float getting stuck up there isn't brain surgery, either. As it is, you'll have to put up with constantly dripping water and the need to check the float after every rain shower.
