Description
Victron Smart BMS 12/200
The Smart BMS 12/200 serves as a comprehensive Battery Management System tailored for Victron Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) Smart Batteries, specifically designed for use in 12V systems with a 12V alternator, typical of vehicles and boats.
This all-encompassing system integrates a Current Limiter, Battery Combiner, and Battery Protector into a durable and compact package. It enables the safe connection of any size 12V alternator (along with the starter battery), loads, and chargers to the Smart Lithium batteries.
It actively monitors and safeguards each cell within the battery or battery bank, severing the connection to the alternator, charging sources, or DC loads if it detects low or high battery cell voltage or excessive temperature.
A unique feature of this BMS is its dedicated alternator connection, which limits the current and ensures directional flow from the alternator to the battery. This ensures that alternators of any size (along with the starter battery) can be connected safely to the Smart Lithium battery (or battery bank), while also protecting the starter battery from excessive draining.
The BMS is enhanced with Bluetooth capability for monitoring and setup, includes a remote on/off connector for system deactivation via an external switch, and features a pre-alarm contact for issuing early warnings before disconnecting the batteries from the system.
The Smart BMS 12-200 encompasses several key features designed to optimize battery management for Victron Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) Smart Batteries, ensuring both safety and efficiency:
- Alternator/Starter Battery Protection: The Alternator/Starter Batt+ port has an electronic limit set to approximately 90% of the fuse’s rating to prevent overcharging and overload. For example, a 100 A fuse will limit the input current to about 90 A, safeguarding the lithium battery from excessive charge currents and protecting the alternator from overload, which could cause most 12 V alternators to overheat and fail if they operate at maximum output for more than five minutes.
- System+ Power Port for Loads and Chargers: This port allows for the charging or discharging of the lithium battery, supporting a maximum continuous current of 200 A in both directions. It can be used to connect additional chargers, inverters, or inverter/chargers directly, and also serves as a direct connection point for DC loads.
- Remote On/Off Terminal: This feature provides the flexibility to stop charging from the Alternator port and manage charging and discharging via the System+ port, all while maintaining active BMS functionality. It can also be used to completely turn off the system or to halt charging from the Alternator port only.
- Load and Charge Disconnect Output: The BMS diligently monitors each battery cell’s status, ready to disconnect the alternator, charging sources, or DC loads if it detects low/high battery cell voltage or high temperature conditions, ensuring the battery’s longevity and safety.
- Pre-Alarm Output: This output can activate a relay, LED, or buzzer to issue a warning signal before the BMS disconnects the batteries from the system, providing an early indication of potential issues.
- Bluetooth Connectivity for Monitoring and Configuration: With the VictronConnect app, users can monitor and configure the BMS remotely, offering convenience and ease of use. The Instant Readout feature allows for real-time access to crucial values without needing to connect to the BMS directly, facilitating quick diagnostics.
These features collectively enhance the management and protection of lithium batteries in various applications, ensuring their safe and efficient operation.
