Description

Victron 12V/25Ah AGM Super Cycle Battery (M5)

The AGM series, designed to last between 7 and 10 years, features exceptionally low internal resistance, making it an ideal choice for applications requiring high current discharge, such as inverters, thrusters, and winches. On the other hand, the GEL series, with a design life of 12 years, excels in deep cycle durability, offering an extended lifespan. Both AGM and GEL types utilize high purity materials and lead calcium grids to minimize self-discharge, ensuring they remain charged over long periods of inactivity. Equipped with M8 drilled, flat copper terminals, they provide optimal connection contact without the need for additional battery terminals. These batteries meet CE and UL standards, are housed in ABS fireproof containers, and are backed by Victron’s 2-year global warranty.

Features:

  1. Introduction to VRLA Technology: VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid, indicating these batteries are fully sealed. Should there be overcharging or a cell malfunction, gases are safely expelled through built-in safety valves. These batteries are designed to be maintenance-free throughout their lifespan.
  2. Sealed AGM Batteries Explained: AGM, which stands for Absorbent Glass Mat, is a technology where the battery’s electrolyte is soaked into a fine glass-fiber mat placed between the plates, utilizing capillary action. As detailed in the publication ‘Energy Unlimited,’ AGM batteries excel in providing short-duration high currents, surpassing gel batteries in this regard.
  3. Characteristics of Sealed Gel Batteries: In gel batteries, the electrolyte is thickened into a gel form. Generally, gel batteries offer a superior service life and enhanced cycling capabilities compared to their AGM counterparts.
  4. Advantages of Low Self-Discharge: The employment of lead-calcium grids and highly pure materials enables Victron VRLA batteries to maintain charge over extended periods without the need for recharging. These batteries exhibit a self-discharge rate of less than 2% per month at 20°C, with the rate doubling with every 10°C rise in temperature. Stored under cool conditions, Victron VRLA batteries can go up to a year without needing a recharge.
  5. Outstanding Deep Discharge Recovery: Victron VRLA batteries are noted for their exceptional ability to recover from deep or prolonged discharges. However, it’s important to note that frequent deep and prolonged discharges can significantly reduce the lifespan of any lead-acid battery, including Victron’s.
  6. Battery Discharging Dynamics: The nominal capacity of Victron AGM and Gel Deep Cycle batteries is based on a 20-hour discharge rate, equating to a discharge current of 0.05 C. In contrast, the capacity for Victron Tubular Plate Long Life batteries is calculated based on a 10-hour discharge. It’s crucial to understand that the effective capacity diminishes as the discharge current increases, a reduction that accelerates under constant power loads, such as when powering an inverter.
